Description

The IFC-Canada Climate Change Program provided support to a soda ash producer in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to improve resource and energy efficiency practices as part of the facility expansion plan. In particular, program funds will finance an energy efficient fluidized bed boiler.

Results/Expected Outcomes

The installation of an energy efficient fluidized bed boiler is expected to improve the efficiency of steam power generation by 15 percent and reduce electricity consumption by 50 percent. With support from Canada, this project is expected to mobilize an additional $60 million in co-financing from public and private sources and lead to an estimated greenhouse gas emissions reduction of 40,000 metric tons of CO2 per year.*
