Library of climate resources

This is a collection of links to climate datasets, tools, guidance and related resources. The sources include the federal government, provincial and territorial governments, national professional organizations, climate consortia and established international organizations. It can be useful for impact, vulnerability and risk assessments, and for adaptation planning.

Refine your search using the search filters. You can also type up to 5 keywords in the search bar.

Explanation of the different resource types
  • data product - downloadable climate dataset
  • tool - builds on a dataset with further analyses and/or visualization
  • guidance - provides direction on the use of climate information or on conducting climate-related assessments
  • codes and standards - guidance and best practice documents for climate resilient design
  • additional resources include educational and awareness-raising material, impact assessments and scientific syntheses

A map depicting short-term changes in streamflow conditions, computed at stream gauges. The color of each stream gauge represents real-time streamflow compared to percentiles of historical daily streamflow for that day of the year. When the stream gauges on the map are clicked, a pop-up appears with pertinent gauge information including a summary of gauge statistics, a graph of gauge discharge, a flood tracking chart and the gauges flooding forecast.

Northwest Boreal Science and Management Research Tool (Opens in a new Window)

The Northwest Boreal Science and Management Research Tool contains curated scholarly articles, datasets, state and federal resource reports, land management plans, and more. Each entry includes geographic information about the area of study, allowing users to draw a box on a map to narrow searches to information directly related to a specific region in Alaska, the Yukon, British Columbia, and Northwest Territories. This project is a collaboration among Alaska Resources Library & Information Services (ARLIS), Alaska Climate Science Center, DataBasin, and Northwest Boreal Landscape Conservation Cooperative.

Nova Scotia Flood Event Database (Opens in a new Window)

The Nova Scotia Flood History database contains historical records of flood events in Nova Scotia from 1992 to February 1, 2015. Each record in the database represents a single news article from The Chronicle Herald. The database provides the best matched city where the flood event occurred, the date the story was published, a snippet from the article's full story, other places and the county referenced in the news article (if available), and a citation for the record. Historical flood events dating back to 1759 until 1987 are also projected onto an interactive map.

Reference Hydrometric Basin Network (Opens in a new Window)

The Reference Hydrometric Basin Network (RHBN) is a set of streamgage stations with long records and minimal human impacts that would be appropriate for climate change studies. Where the RHBN is explicitly a network of the best available stations among similar watersheds, a list of RHBN-quality stations with supporting metadata is also available for download.

Sea Level Rise (Opens in a new Window)

The Educating Coastal Communities About Sea-level Rise (ECoAS) Project is a co-led initiative designed to translate scientific climate change research into useable information to educate coastal communities within Atlantic Canada about the need for planning for future sea-level rise impacts. The project includes online information and workshops about rising seas.

Seasonal Anomaly Maps (Opens in a new Window)

The Seasonal Anomaly maps tool gives access to static maps of anomalies of climatic variables relative to 1971-2000 averages from monitoring stations across British Columbia. Climate variables include minimum and maximum temperature, and precipitation. Annual maps are available from 1972 to 2018 for each season, and month.
