    Climate scenarios - Graphics and tables of projected climate change for Canada (Opens in a new Window)

    Graphics and tables of projected changes in climate across Canada are computed from an ensemble of multi-model output gathered as part of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5). Projections are based on the Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios. Time series data are available for projected changes in temperature, precipitation, and snow depth annually and seasonally. Maps of projected changes in temperature, precipitation, snow depth, sea ice concentration, sea ice thickness, and wind speed are available for three future time periods between 2016 and 2100.

    ClimateNA_Map (Opens in a new Window)

    ClimateNA extracts and downscales PRISM 1971-2000 monthly climate normal data and monthly solar radiation normal data (4km x 4km) to scale-free point locations in North America, and calculates seasonal and annual climate variables for specific locations based on latitude, longitude and elevation (optional). Climate projections are available for Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) 2.6, 4.5, and 8.5 under climate models for the 2025, 2055, and 2085 time periods. Data are spatially projected onto a map, and could be appended onto a CSV file for download.

    CLIMOD 2 (Opens in a new Window)

    CLIMOD2 (Climate Information for Management and Operational Decisions) allows for retrieval and presentation of climate data from one or more stations in the Eastern Atlantic. Historical data are available as point data. Available climate products include daily data for a month, daily degree days, calendar day summaries, and daily/normal graphs. Data could be appended in a graphical or tabular time series.

    CoCoRaHS Precipitation Map (Opens in a new Window)

    Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network (CoCoRaHS) Mapping Canada is an interactive map that links to historical observations of precipitation, snow fall, snow fall water equivalent, snow depth, and snow depth water equivalent at various stations across North America. Users can use the interactive map to select individual station reports and data. Data is available in mapped and tabular formats.

    Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) Global Climate Model Data (Opens in a new Window)

    Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) global climate model data regridded onto a common 1x1 degree global grid are available. Global climate model data at a monthly temporal resolution are available in gridded format for several variables including mean temperature, precipitation, sea ice thickness, sea ice concentration, snow depth, and near-surface wind speed. Individual and ensemble model output are available for historical (1900-2005) and future (2006-2100) time periods. Future projections are based on the Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios.

    Current and projected climate data for North America (CMIP5 scenarios) (Opens in a new Window)

    AdaptWest provides modelled climate projections generated using the ClimateNA software, downscaled from the Coupled Climate Model Comparison Phase 5 (CMIP5) database. Variables include mean and extreme estimates of temperature and precipitation, growing and cooling degree days, snowfall, evapotranspiration, and drought indices. Data are available from individual models or a 15-model ensemble at a 1km resolution for North America as well as individual states and provinces to a horizon year of 2050, available for download in grid or tabular formats.

    CWFIS DataMart (Opens in a new Window)

    The Canadian Wildland Fire Information Service (CWFIS) DataMart contains observational fire history data. Datasets include the National Burned Area Composite (defined as the area of forest burned annually since 2004), National Fire Database fire polygon data (forest fire perimeters), National Fire Database fire point data (forest fire locations), the Large Fire Database fire point data (fires greater than 200 hectares between 1959 and 1999), and Alberta Smoke Plume Observations data (observations of 222 plumes collected between 2010 and 2015). Historical point and polygon data are available across Canada.

    Data at National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) is a large repository of datasets that describe historical cryosphere information. Datasets available include temperature, glaciers, ice sheets, permafrost, sea ice, sea moisture, and snow. Historical data are available as point and gridded data.

    Drifting buoys (Opens in a new Window)

    Drifting Buoys includes observations of sea surface temperature, air pressure, salinity, air temperature, wind, and position recorded by buoys deployed by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission’s Global Ocean Observing System. This dataset begins in 1978. Data can be downloaded as monthly files.

    Engineering Climate Data Sets (Opens in a new Window)

    Engineering Climate Datasets contain: Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) Files, the Canadian Weather Energy and Engineering Datasets (CWEEDS) and the Canadian Weather Year for Energy Calculation (CWEC) dataset. The IDF dataset contains short duration rainfall Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) statistics. Data are presented as tables and graphs for various locations across Canada. CWEEDS provides hourly and long-term weather conditions at monitoring stations across Canada with at least 10 years of records between 1998 and 2014. CWEC datasets contain 12 calculated "Typical Meteorological Months" selected from a 30 years of records, including daily global radiation, dry-bulb temperature, dew-point temperature and wind speed.
