Library of climate resources

This is a collection of links to climate datasets, tools, guidance and related resources. The sources include the federal government, provincial and territorial governments, national professional organizations, climate consortia and established international organizations. It can be useful for impact, vulnerability and risk assessments, and for adaptation planning.

Refine your search using the search filters. You can also type up to 5 keywords in the search bar.

Explanation of the different resource types
  • data product - downloadable climate dataset
  • tool - builds on a dataset with further analyses and/or visualization
  • guidance - provides direction on the use of climate information or on conducting climate-related assessments
  • codes and standards - guidance and best practice documents for climate resilient design
  • additional resources include educational and awareness-raising material, impact assessments and scientific syntheses

Atlas hydroclimatique du Québec méridional (in French only) (Opens in a new Window)

The Hydroclimatic Atlas presents a synthesis of the state of knowledge describing the current water regime and the expected impact of climate change on the water regime of southern Quebec. This document is intended primarily for professionals in the field of water resources and aims to support the planning and implementation of climate change adaptation. The information presented is based on hydrological projections produced according to modeling practices widely recognized by the scientific community. A new update will be available by the end of August 2018.

Canadian Disaster Database (Opens in a new Window)

The Canadian Disaster Database contains information on Canadian and international disasters from 1900 to present. Disasters are separated into natural (biological, meteorological/hydrological, and geological), conflict (arson, civil incidents, hijacking, and terrorist), and technology (fire, hazardous chemical, transportation accident, infrastructure failure, explosion, and space event). Point and gridded historical data are available.

Canadian ensemble of CMIP5 ocean wave heights simulations mean and extremes (Opens in a new Window)

Canadian ensemble of CMIP5 ocean wave heights simulations mean and extremes contains monthly, seasonal and annual statistics (mean and maximum) of significant wave height that were produced using a statistical modelling approach and 6-hourly sea level pressure. Sea level pressure was simulated by 20 global climate models included in the Coupled Climate Model Comparison Phase 5 (CMIP5) project. The gridded global dataset contains projected data. Data are available for the historical period 1950-2005 and two different future emission scenarios (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5).

Canadian Extreme Water Level Adaptation Tool (CAN-EWLAT) (Opens in a new Window)

Canadian Extreme Water Level Adaptation Tool (CAN-EWLAT) is a science-based planning tool for the adaptation of coastal infrastructure related to future water-level extremes and changes in wave climates. This tool allows users to locate tide gauges and small craft harbours across Canada. For each geographical location, data including vertical allowance, sea level rise, mean water level, and wave climate can be visualized and downloaded.

Climate Change Adaptation Planning and Creation of a Local Early Action Plan: A Guide for Facilitating a Co-Created Adaptation Planning Process in Indigenous Communities (Opens in a new Window)

This guide aims to guide practitioners working in, and, with Indigenous communities in creating robust, community lead adaptation plans that are founded in Traditional Knowledge and Western science. Through five phases of adaptation planning, users will develop a Local Early Action Plan including strategies and actions to cope with identified community priorities. Activities included in this resource intend to boost community collaboration and involvement.

Engineering Climate Data Sets (Opens in a new Window)

Engineering Climate Datasets contain: Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) Files, the Canadian Weather Energy and Engineering Datasets (CWEEDS) and the Canadian Weather Year for Energy Calculation (CWEC) dataset. The IDF dataset contains short duration rainfall Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) statistics. Data are presented as tables and graphs for various locations across Canada. CWEEDS provides hourly and long-term weather conditions at monitoring stations across Canada with at least 10 years of records between 1998 and 2014. CWEC datasets contain 12 calculated "Typical Meteorological Months" selected from a 30 years of records, including daily global radiation, dry-bulb temperature, dew-point temperature and wind speed.
