Library of climate resources

This is a collection of links to climate datasets, tools, guidance and related resources. The sources include the federal government, provincial and territorial governments, national professional organizations, climate consortia and established international organizations. It can be useful for impact, vulnerability and risk assessments, and for adaptation planning.

Explanation of the different resource types
  • data product - downloadable climate dataset
  • tool - builds on a dataset with further analyses and/or visualization
  • guidance - provides direction on the use of climate information or on conducting climate-related assessments
  • codes and standards - guidance and best practice documents for climate resilient design
  • additional resources include educational and awareness-raising material, impact assessments and scientific syntheses

Climate Change: Workplace Impacts (Opens in a new Window)

This publication discusses the impacts of climate change with a focus on workplaces, employers, workers, and the work they do. This publication discusses climate change and its impact on workplace health and safety, employers, workers, and other stakeholders. It includes: - direct and indirect impact of climate change on the workplace and the people in it, - taking climate-related events into account when establishing policies and programs to address their impact on occupational health and safety, - considering the impacts of climate change when completing workplace hazard identification and risk assessment, and - potential approaches for addressing climate-related workplace hazards (e.g., emergency response, implementing safe work practices, etc.).

Coastal Adaptation Toolkit (Opens in a new Window)

The Coastal Adaptation Toolkit was developed to help Atlantic rural coastal communities and property owners plan for the effects of climate change. It is appropriate for use by communities and property owners that are experiencing coastal issues related to erosion and/or short- and long-term flooding impacts. The intent of the toolkit is to help communities and decision-makers as well as coastal property owners be aware of their coastal environment, the different adaptation options available to them, and the applicability of the options under different scenarios.

Coastal Flood Inundation Mapping Project (Opens in a new Window)

The Capital Region Coastal Flood Inundation Mapping Project (PDF) provides a comprehensive picture of coastal flooding due to rising sea levels and tsunamis. The project provides enhanced coastal flood hazard information to: - Help planners and emergency managers prepare the region for coastal storm and tsunami events that may impact southern Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands. - Offer guidance to regional stakeholders to inform coastal flood policy, planning and communication efforts. - Better understand the infrastructure, ecosystems and cultural sites that may be at risk due to future sea level rise. - Identify risks to residents and infrastructure (e.g., harbours, marinas, docks) within the capital region as a result of tsunami waves and currents.
