Library of climate resources

This is a collection of links to climate datasets, tools, guidance and related resources. The sources include the federal government, provincial and territorial governments, national professional organizations, climate consortia and established international organizations. It can be useful for impact, vulnerability and risk assessments, and for adaptation planning.

Refine your search using the search filters. You can also type up to 5 keywords in the search bar.

Explanation of the different resource types
  • data product - downloadable climate dataset
  • tool - builds on a dataset with further analyses and/or visualization
  • guidance - provides direction on the use of climate information or on conducting climate-related assessments
  • codes and standards - guidance and best practice documents for climate resilient design
  • additional resources include educational and awareness-raising material, impact assessments and scientific syntheses

Atlas agroclimatique du Québec (in French only) (Opens in a new Window)

The AgroClimate Atlas of Quebec contains historical observations and future modelled climate indicators for various regions of Quebec. Moderate and high emissions scenarios are available and indicators are presented in mapped and graphical form. Indicators are reported as seasonal averages over the horizon periods, and include: frost dates, extreme temperatures, growing season, degree-days, corn heat units, hardening, dehardening, precipitation, water budget, and IDF graphs.

Atlas hydroclimatique du Québec méridional (in French only) (Opens in a new Window)

The Hydroclimatic Atlas presents a synthesis of the state of knowledge describing the current water regime and the expected impact of climate change on the water regime of southern Quebec. This document is intended primarily for professionals in the field of water resources and aims to support the planning and implementation of climate change adaptation. The information presented is based on hydrological projections produced according to modeling practices widely recognized by the scientific community. A new update will be available by the end of August 2018.

BC Climate Explorer (Opens in a new Window)

The BC Climate Explorer is an independent, open-source data visualization project using BC's Biogeoclimatic Ecosystem Classification (BEC) units. The goal is to help British Columbians - citizens, professionals, and public servants - to understand their changing local climates using both historical and projected future climate information. A wide range of variables is available, including temperature, precipitation, season length, frost, moisture deficit, humidity, and calculated indicators at monthly, seasonal, and annual resolutions. Data are displayed as raster data and are available for download in tabular, polygon, or raster file formats.

Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis (CCCma) Climate model graphics overview (Opens in a new Window)

Climate model graphics for a number of climate models developed by the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis (CCCma) are available. Model graphics of projected changes in temperature and precipitation are available for CanESM2 (fourth generation coupled GCM / 2nd generation Earth System Model), CanRCM4 (Canadian Regional Climate Model), and CGCM3 (third generation coupled GCM). Model graphics for earlier model versions are also available.

Canadian Coastal Climate Risk Information System (Opens in a new Window)

National Research Council Canada. The web application hosts numerical simulations of storm surges and waves in British Columbia coastal waters under historical and future climate (RCP8.5) scenarios. The project is the first of its kind to utilize unstructured, computational models to simulate storm surges and waves for the entire western Canada coastal region, while maintaining the high spatial resolution in coastal sub-basins needed to capture local dynamic responses

Canadian ensemble of CMIP5 ocean wave heights simulations mean and extremes (Opens in a new Window)

Canadian ensemble of CMIP5 ocean wave heights simulations mean and extremes contains monthly, seasonal and annual statistics (mean and maximum) of significant wave height that were produced using a statistical modelling approach and 6-hourly sea level pressure. Sea level pressure was simulated by 20 global climate models included in the Coupled Climate Model Comparison Phase 5 (CMIP5) project. The gridded global dataset contains projected data. Data are available for the historical period 1950-2005 and two different future emission scenarios (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5).
